Cheap New Laptops

buying refurb laptops from USA is better , i mean is it a better deal

I bought a refurb. Dell laptop from Amazon.com and it works awesome and I got it for half the price…I def. think it was a great deal.

me my wife and mine two kids are going next week to india from sanFrancisco (USA).
I had with me three laptopts.
one dell mobile centrino … with bill and twoD Dell P3 laptop without bill.
So can i carry those without any custom duty… Actually the two old P3 laptops are of my personal use but i dont have bills.
So can i carry those without any custom duty… pls reply
Now i have decided that I’ll not carry my office laptop and will carry only those two old P3 laptops(which are without bills). So will these two laptops be attracted toward any custom duty ????

Unless the laptops are of value greater than $5000 you will not be require to pay duty on them. If you are planning on returning to the USA with them then you should be required to pay duty on them anyway.

One is my personal and other one I have purchased for my friend in India. While returning to US in 3 weeks time, I will carry back only my laptop.

Just make sure you do not carry anything in package else customs will question you in India and say it is for work purpose. The other one is personal laptop.

You can’t always be 100% certain, sometimes they are a little shifty, but Gateway is supposed to have their main laptop facility in South Dakota. Dell is supposed to be out of Texas. Dell has been talking of a move oversees soon though.

I need high-speed internet on the move on my laptop in a forthcoming trip to USA & Canada. I’ll be in Orlando FL, New York, Boston, Montreal, Quebec.

Which suppliers/networks provide this service, and where can I rent these from? The only place I can find is Cellhire, though they don’t have many details.

Both the laptops are personal. One of them is not working and wanted to get it right in India. Second is a new one that i have bought for personal use.
Would there be any Customs etc duties..anywhere or are there any formalities..both of the laptops would be easily fitting into my luggage and hand luggage

I would think it would be ok. But I dont work for TSA either.

For an accurate answer go to TSA’s website & it should say on there under laptops if there are any exclusions (ie carrying more then one laptop by only one person on board).

I am an Indian in US right now. I am here for work and my company sent me with a laoptop from India. Now, since laptops and other electronic items r very cheap here in US, is it possible (or legal) for me to carry two laptops (one official and another personal) back to India, without paying any extra custom charges??

Actually you can bring only one laptop as a traveller. If you had got your 1 computer noted in Passport while leaving India then the custom officer, at the time of entry may consider your case. Please enquire first, otherwise you may have to pay duty for one laptop.
