Cheap New Laptops

Hi,

I came 2 USA for a short visit and I am going back to India now. While coming I brought my office laptop and I can get declaration for that laptop from my office. In USA I purchased on more laptop. Can I carry 2 laptops with me in cabin baggage. Do I need to pay any duty fee to Customs.

And another thing I need to take 3 flights to go India, one is a americn airlines domestic and later emirates. Can I carry 2 laptops in american airlines.

Please guide me……

The USA is the cheapest place to buy laptops or any computer for that matter. I always buy extra laptops from fry’s and take them with me to China. You’ll be ok as long as you either put them in the stow away luggage or can prove they turn on (aka not bombs)

Other than the extended warranty option given by sony, hp, best buy and the likes, are there any companies / websites that provide extended warranty for laptops. I see lot of options online, but not sure which one is reliable.

I would not buy from online like that you want someone that is local and you can go to and trust they are going to be there when you need them. Try electronic stores similar to Bestbuy they have extended warranty plans for most laptop brands. Good luck.

Actually I am planning to buy a laptop online from USA.It worth me $579.
But I am confused that what is the payable text to the government of india & Is it really a good deal that purchasing a laptop from USA without any help of third party.

I think it is better to buy a laptop from India itself. Tax is not the only issue. Even if you buy a laptop from US (and assuming that its after tax price in India is lower than a laptop bought from India), servicing will be difficult here. If there is a defect in any part or software, the Indian arm of the same company will NOT accept that laptop for servicing. They will insist you to send it to the US company for servicing, or insist you to talk to them first and then give it to them for servicing. So, I will suggest you to buy a laptop from India only. Just check that you have got the right configuration and right price.

is it possible to carry 2 laptops for duty free. One laptop is official and the other one is personal.

You can claim the other one as a gift if they do question you. Otherwise they usually don’t care. From most of my travels anyways, it’s only the US that makes you take it out of the bag when you go through security. Keep them in one bag if you can.

Is there a problem with the voltage etc. and do they work without a problem?

The cost will depend on the weight, how fast you need to get it there and whether or not you choose to insure it; for an expensive item like a laptop, I would insure it.

You will probably have to fill out some sort of customs form. The websites can give you more info.
